Timothy C. Coughlin

Mr. Coughlin has been Managing Director of Edgemoor Investment Advisors, Inc., an independent Registered Investment Advisor, since 2004.  He is a member of its Investment Selection Committee, and he develops and manages client relationships for whom he provides investment and financial planning advice.

Mr. Coughlin was previously President of Riggs Bank from 1984 to 1992 and President of Riggs National Corporation from 1992 to 2004 where he was also Chairman and CEO of Riggs Investment Advisors, Inc. Riggs Bank had a long history of support for Washington National Cathedral beginning with early leaders of the bank who were instrumental in the cathedral’s creation and construction.  Before his Presidencies at Riggs, Mr. Coughlin was Deputy General Manager of Banque Paribas in New York City and a Vice President at The Chase Manhattan Bank.

He is a graduate of Cranbrook School and Brown University, earned an MBA Degree from the New York University Leonard Stern School of Business and is a CFP. 

He was previously a member of the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation Board of Trustees from 1989 to 1997 and a member of the St. Albans School Board of Governors from 1987 to 1993. 

He is currently the Chair of WETA Public Service TV/Radio, a Director of the Economic Club of Washington and a Trustee of the Federal City Council.  Prior community service includes Treasurer of the Kennedy Center, Chairman of Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington, Trustee of the Corcoran Gallery of Art, Trustee of Colby-Sawyer College and a Director of the Greater Washington Board of Trade.

Mr. Coughlin and his wife, Laurie, have four children and nine grandchildren.
