Romeo and Juliet: Berlioz & Shakespeare

Sat., Oct. 22, 2022 • 4 pm

The fiery passion and stunning tenderness of the Romeo & Juliet story come to life in Hector Berlioz’s most original work. The Atlanta Ballet joins CCS for a dramatic rendering of the choral symphony, with new choreography by Claudia Schreier.

Veterans Day Concert

Sun, Nov. 11 • 2 pm

Join Washington National Cathedral and “The President’s Own” United States Marine Chamber Orchestra for an evening of patriotic and celebratory music, presented in collaboration with Dog Tag Bakery, Team RWB, Hidden Heroes, and other organizations working to support veterans and their families in civilian life.

Thanksgiving Organ Recital

Celebrate Thanksgiving with Alcee Chriss, University Organist and Artist-in-Residence at Wesleyan University, for an afternoon of organ music in a Cathedral adorned with the beauty of God’s abundance.

On Palm Sunday, immerse yourself in Poulenc’s penitential motets and the orchestral technicolor of his Tenebrae responsories; revel in Duruflé’s explorations of Gregorian chant and his breathtaking Requiem.

Cathedral organist Thomas Sheehan celebrates the joy of Easter with a selection of uplifting music to celebrate the Resurrection on the Cathedral’s Great Organ.

Monteverdi's Vespers

Bridging the Renaissance and the Baroque is Monteverdi’s rarely-performed 1610 Vespro della Beata Vergine. The splendor and beauty of the Cathedral offers a dramatic backdrop for an afternoon of musical texture and sacred sound.

Our Work Unfinished: A Black Composers Retrospective

The Cathedral Choral Society and Heritage Signature Chorale join forces to present Our Work Unfinished: A Black Composers Retrospective. With a full orchestra and Maestro Stanley J. Thurston on the podium, the chorus will offer an exploration of music that reflects the African American experience. The program features Adolphus Hailstork’s Done Made My Vow, an unparalleled, exquisitely moving work that chronicles the Civil Rights journey from Harriet Tubman through Barack Obama.

Memorial Day Organ Recital

Today, we celebrate the resilience and fortitude of our armed services, giving thanks for their bravery and honoring their myriad achievements for our country.
