The Rev. Canon Peter F. Grandell

Former Senior Canon and Precentor

The Rev. Canon Peter F. Grandell was appointed the Cathedral’s
precentor in the spring of 2000. He oversees the Worship Department
(including Music and the Altar Guild) and the approximately 1,800 services
held in the Cathedral each year. Canon Grandell joined the Cathedral’s
staff in the autumn of 1999 as interim precentor.

Canon Grandell comes to the Cathedral from General Theological Seminary
in New York City where he served as assistant director of the Chapel of the
Good Shepherd and teaching assistant in homiletics. Prior to his most recent
employment at GTS (which commenced in 1998), he was the chief sacristan at
GTS from 1992 to 1995. He is also a 1995 graduate of GTS with an M.Div.
degree. Prior to 1998 Canon Grandell served several churches in both
ordained and lay capacities. His previous employment includes positions in
wage and salary administration, word processing and arts management for a
variety of firms in New York City. He graduated cum laude from Wagner
College in Staten Island, New York, with a Bachelor of Science degree in
biology in 1981.
