Jan Smith is a free-lance journalist who recently completed a series of videos for the Smithsonian’s National Portrait Gallery website interviewing the four female U.S. Supreme Court Justices. She has also done a series of reports on U.S. presidents for National Geographic Television. Jan won a National Headliner’s Award for a military pay report for CNN. She also covered national and local news for WTTG Television in Washington for 12 years. A graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism, she began her reporting career at WDAF-TV in Kansas City.
Smith is Co-Chair of the Cathedral’s Outreach and Social Justice Committee and a Co-Chair of Georgetown University’s Partners in Research which raises community funds for physicians applying for federal grants to help them keep their research on track. She became an Episcopalian in Kansas City in 1982 while a television reporter there, but first went to the Church of England as a child in the UK when her father was a graduate student.
