Dennis L. Fruitt was appointed executive director for external relations
in the autumn of 1999. He directs and oversees the work of the Development
Department, the Visitor Programs and Volunteer Services Department, the
Office of Public Affairs, and the National Cathedral Association. In April
1997 he joined the Cathedral staff as director of the National Cathedral
Association. Prior to his appointment to head the NCA, Mr. Fruitt had been
director of development for the National Institute for Dispute
In that capacity he launched that organizations first development
program, launched a major donor program and developed an institutional
marketing program to support fund raising and institutional advancement.
Previously, he held executive positions with Conservation International
including serving as senior director of program development and as vice
president for development, membership and marketing. Mr. Fruitt also worked
for the National Trust for Historic Preservation and the American Council on
Mr. Fruitt is a graduate of American University and has studied at Warnborough House in Oxford, England.
