The Development Database Administrator serves as Washington National Cathedral’s (WNC) primary Blackbaud systems point of contact, having expert-level proficiency with Raiser’s Edge (RE database view) and REnxt (web view) systems, including the ability to perform complex database processes, imports, queries and exports required to produce detailed and accurate reports for use in research, mailings, analysis, executive reporting, and for integration with other institutional systems. The position holds responsibility for ongoing quality control and data purity along with system security management and staff training to ensure accuracy and utility of Washington National Cathedral’s mission-critical data to maximize donor support and leverage fundraising activities.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Act as in-house resource of detailed knowledge and expert user of WNC’s RE/REnxt system configuration, responding to requests and inquiries and providing information to internal and external stakeholders; maximize the database through effective management of donor information ensuring accuracy of information and data analysis.
  • Manage database housekeeping procedures; proactively identify and assess new functionality to streamline processes; develop effective quality control measures such as cleaning and compacting the database, identify and merge duplicate records, remove or archive redundant data and correct data errors to ensure the efficient operation of the system and quality of the data.
  • Create database reports & queries that will provide information as required by the Development and Finance departments. Develop and maintain existing custom reports in Crystal Reports or other custom report-writing software using RE data. Responsible for the accuracy of all reports and queries generated from Raiser’s Edge.
  • Produce weekly, monthly, quarterly, and any other necessary reports, working closely with gift processing and Finance teams to generate and reconcile daily, weekly, monthly and other financial reports as required.
  • Oversee use of import tool “Omatic” to manage data inputs from external sources, such as, but not limited to, caging files, data exchanges between RE and other institutional systems, including EveryAction or Theatre Manager.
  • Generate lists, data exports, imports, and other queries as requested by Development and WNC Responsible for the accuracy of all list pulls generated from Raiser’s Edge.
  • Act as point of contact to WNC RE users, providing responsive service to questions and requests for assistance. Manage productive relationships with fundraising teams to facilitate income generation. Responsible for staff development within the RE/REnxt environments, through in-person/virtual training opportunities.
  • Work closely with Director of Development Operations on Blackbaud suite of products (Raiser’s Edge/REnxt/Research Point/BB Merchant Services) implementation/and adoption of new functionality and upgrades.
  • Work closely with appropriate WNC staff in gift processing and annual fund on all vendor relationships that involve the Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Work closely with the gift processing team to provide key support on Raiser Edge best practices and all gift processing automation and routine quality control checks.
  • Maintain the structure of attributes, code tables, business rules, and all other setup functions. Handle global changes, importing, and other global database functions.
  • Establish and maintain Raiser’s Edge/REnxt and Development policies and procedures
  • In partnership with Associate Director of Prospect Management & Research, develop and manage constituent record cleanup projects, such as updating addresses/records, reports, finding lost donors, new donor records, etc.
  • Serve on inter-departmental Cathedral Data Roundtable/Council to ensure accurate, consistent and secure data protection protocols are followed across constituent record management systems.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
minimum qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • At least 5 (+) years’ experience managing a Raiser’s Edge database.
  • Knowledge of Crystal Reports (or other custom-report software) and Access databases is required.
  • Expertise with Raiser’s Edge/REnxt essential – experience with other relational databases/CRM systems such as Salesforce, Donor Perfect, etc. helpful.
  • Strong MS Office (especially Excel), SharePoint, Outlook, Teams. Project management skills are useful.

  • General knowledge of accounting principles as it relates to the treatment of contribution revenue such as pledges and payments, gifts-in-kind, stocks, and planned gifts and endowments.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills are essential.
  • Highly refined team-building skills with staff, internal, and external clients are essential.
  • Must be able to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required.
  • Ability to translate database-speak to a wide range of colleagues/audiences; ability to translate plainspoken requests into database coding.
WORKING CONDITIONS
  • This position requires work during regular business hours. At times, some work on weekends and outside of regular business hours may be required.
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid model of work, requiring at least 3 days/week in the office.
  • The position requires prolonged sitting and/or standing, in the performance of daily activities.
  • The position also requires grasping, repetitive hand movement, and fine coordination in preparing reports using a computer keyboard.
  • The position also requires near and far vision for reading and preparing written reports and other required documents.
  • Acute hearing is also required when providing phone assistance.

Expected salary range: $70,000 – $75,000 commensurate to experience
