Collect Writing Workshop with Pádraig Ó Tuama
The poetic form of the collect invites us to gather our thoughts, discern our intentions, and craft our words, “putting language around mystery.” Join poet and theologian Pádraig Ó Tuama for this in-person workshop as we explore how this 1000-year-old shape of language gives intelligence and focus to our desire; whether writing poetry or prayers, whether in or out of religious affiliation. ASL interpretation will be offered at this event.

About the Event Leader
Irish poet and theologian Pádraig Ó Tuama’s work centers around themes of language, power, conflict and religion. He presents Poetry Unbound from On Being studios and is the author of the collections of poetry and essay under that name. Kitchen Hymns his most recent collection, came out in early 2025 and it explores language, mythology, eros and the underworld in lyric poetry and persona studies: Jesus of Nazareth the Greek Goddess Persephone being two of his major characters. This project is co-sponsored by On Being, the Henry Luce Foundation and Washington National Cathedral.
