Blessing of the Animals
Sunday, October 4, 2026 • 2 pm
Washington National Cathedral’s annual Blessing of the Animals service is one of the most beloved events of the year. The joyful gathering outside at the Cathedral’s west front honors the feast day of Saint Francis of Assisi (c. 1180–1226), patron saint of animals and the environment.
Blessing of the Animals 2026
All God’s critters and their caretakers are invited to gather for a special blessing at the Cathedral’s west front on Sunday, October 4 at 2 pm. Partner organizations City Dogs and City Kitties Rescue and Miri’s Haven Senior Dog Rescue will also be on site with information on their central missions and how to get involved.
