On Thursday, April 9, at Morehouse College, The Very Rev. Randy Hollerith, Cathedral Dean, was inducted into the Board of Preachers of the Martin Luther King Jr. College of Ministers & Laity. At the same ceremony, the Rev. Canon Kelly Brown Douglas, Canon Theologian, was awarded the 2026 Community Builders Prize and inducted into the Board of Scholars.

Canon Douglas’ portrait will hang in Morehouse College’s Martin Luther King Jr. International Chapel’s collection, alongside human rights leaders.

Featured in the same collection is a portrait of the Rt. Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, Bishop of Washington, who received the 2025 Peace Prize at last year’s ceremony. Also at the 2025 ceremony, the Rev. Canon Leonard L. Hamlin, Sr., Canon Missioner, and Cathedral congregant and lay reader Howie Hodges were also recognized, with inductions into the Board of Preachers and Board of Sponsors, respectively.

The College of Ministers & Laity shares a deep connection with the Cathedral’s history and mission. Its namesake, the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., delivered his final Sunday sermon from the Cathedral’s Canterbury pulpit in 1968. Among those honored at Thursday’s ceremony were members of the King family, including Yolanda King and Bernice King, both of whom have preached at the Cathedral. Senator Raphael Warnock, who served as guest preacher for the ceremony, most recently preached at the Cathedral in 2025.

The deepest connection between the College of Ministers & Laity and the Cathedral is rooted in a shared passion for recognizing moral leadership, peacemakers, and call to live out faith in public life. The Cathedral’s unique position as the intersection of sacred and civic life, especially through the A Better Way initiative, makes this great honor received by The Very Rev. Randy Hollerith and the Rev. Canon Kelly Brown Douglas all the more fitting.
