WASHINGTON, D.C. Tina Tchen, Chief of Staff to First Lady Michelle Obama, will speak at Washington National Cathedral on Sunday, May 8, 2016, beginning at 9:00 a.m. ET, as part of the Cathedral’s “Second Sunday” series.

In her Mother’s Day appearance, Tchen will celebrate women’s achievements and explore ways to improve women’s lives. She will discuss the upcoming White House Summit: The United State of Women and efforts to advance women’s health, economic and educational opportunities as well as other key gender equality issues.

The Second Sunday series invite guest speakers to focus the congregation’s attention on some of the Cathedral’s top priorities: racial reconciliation, caring for creation and LGBT rights. Guest speakers will preach from the Cathedral’s Canterbury Pulpit during morning services on the second Sunday of each month and join the congregation during a discussion forum between the two services.

Past Second Sundays have featured bestselling author and public theologian Jim Wallis and New Evangelical Partnership President Rev. Richard Cizik. All Second Sunday forums are broadcast live on the Cathedral’s website and archived on the Cathedral’s YouTube Page.

News media are invited to attend and film Tina Tchen’s appearance. Interested media should contact Natalie Butz at West End Strategy Team at (202) 776-7700 or via email at [email protected]. All media should be in place a half an hour prior to the start of the event.
