What a Wonderful World: Cathedral Scholars Benefit

Wednesday, April 11, 2018 | 6:30pm

Every year, 45 students from D.C. public high schools receive college prep, mentoring, internships and academic tutoring from the Cathedral Scholars Program. To date, the program's 275 alumni boast a stunning 100% college acceptance rate.

During the 2018 Outreach, Recruitment and Selection process, the Scholars Program invited 35 high schools—public and charter—to recommend students to be a part of our program.   The Program received 80 applications and interviewed 75 students.  We are happy to report that we were able to accept 19 NEW Scholars this year.  With this new cohort of scholars, it brings our total number of high school Scholars to 60.  Our new cohort represent nine different high schools from across DC. About 50% of our Scholars are from Ward 7 or 8, and 16 will be 1st generation college students.  We are excited to welcome these new Scholars to the Cathedral Family and support them through the next four years of high school and beyond.

Join The Washington Committee of Washington National Cathedral for a benefit reception and concert to celebrate the Scholars' 20th anniversary. Featuring music by the Rev. Andrew Barnett and the Cathedral Band.

The Washington Committee, founded in 1899, is an all-volunteer organization that supports the Cathedral by providing hospitality for Cathedral events, welcoming visitors and groups to the  Cathedral and organizing major fundraising events that preserve and sustain Cathedral programs and treasures.
