Thursday, October 20, 2016 | 7:30pm

PEN/Faulkner welcomes the acclaimed novelist Salman Rushdie, whose awards include the Man Booker Prize, the Best of the Booker, a British knighthood, and many more, to deliver the inaugural Eudora Welty Lecture at Washington National Cathedral.

Each year’s Welty Lecturer will be chosen from among the best writers working in the English language today and will speak on their creative beginnings. In "One Writer's Beginnings," Mr. Rushdie will be speaking about his creative origins as a writer. The title is taken from a series of lectures that Eudora Welty gave in the early 1980s at Harvard in which she spoke about the places, people, and experiences she had that shaped her life as a writer.
