Songs in the Key of Love: Mendelssohn, Brahms and the Schumanns

Tuesday, May 15, 2018 | 7:30pm

Diderot String Quartet with Jesse Blumberg, baritone

Diderot String Quartet proudly presents a selection of buzzworthy works from the 19th century. Anchoring the program are the last quartets of two star-crossed, Leipzig-loving composers who shared a passion for billiards and chess: Robert Schumann's String Quartet in A Major, op. 41, no. 3; and Felix Mendelssohn's String Quartet in F Minor, op. 80. In other news: renowned baritone Jesse Blumberg joins DSQ to perform new arrangements of songs by Johannes Brahms, a keen admirer of Robert Schumann's work and a longtime romantic partner to Schumann's wife, Clara Wieck. Scandalous!

Robert Schumann: String Quartet in A major, Op. 41/3
Johannes Brahms, Clara Schumann, Felix Mendelssohn (arr. Lanzilotti): Lieder
Felix Mendelssohn: String Quartet Op. 80
