The Cathedral's Second Sundays Series features provocative and important voices on the most pressing issues of our day. The Rev. Canon John L. Peterson, former secretary general of the Anglican Communion, is our guest in December, where he and Dean Hollerith will explore the Cathedral's global interfaith work, particularly the Christian-Muslim Summits.
The Cathedral hosted the first of four Christian-Muslim Summits, in 2010, after then-President Mohammad Khatami proposed the idea when he spoke at the Cathedral in 2006. The second Summit was hosted by the Sunnis in 2012 in Beirut; the third Summit hosted by the Roman Catholics was held in Rome in 2014; and last month the fourth Summit was hosted by the Shias in Tehran.
Following Canon Peterson's 12 years as Dean of St. George's College in Jerusalem and 10 years as the Secretary General of the Anglican Communion, he joined the Cathedral as Director of the Center for Global Justice and Reconciliation.
Second Sundays begin with a forum in the nave at 10:10 a.m. Speakers also preach at the 11:15 Holy Eucharist.
