About Virginius Barkauskas

Virginius Barkauskas, born in Lithuania is a concert organist and serves as the Director of Music at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Roman Catholic Church in Melville, NY. He studied at the Lithuanian National Academy of Music in Vilnius, majoring in organ and piano performance, and Juozo Gruodzio Conservatory in Kaunas, Lithuania, where he studied piano performance.

Mr. Barkauskas completed a Master of Arts in Music and Liturgy with emphasis on organ at St. Joseph College in Rensselaer, Indiana, where he had received a full scholarship by the United States Bishop’s Conference and studied under the renowned organist and composer D. Phillip Gehring.

Mr. Barkauskas has performed as soloist at Alice Tully Hall – Lincoln Center, NY, the National Philharmonic Hall in Vilnius, Lithuania, the Washington National Cathedral and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, the Cathedral of Mary Our Queen in Baltimore, MD, St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco, CA, the Incarnation Cathedral, Garden City, NY, the First & Second Church as part of the Baltic Concert Series in Boston, MA, St. Joseph’s College in Rensselaer, IN, Valparaiso University in Valparaiso, IN, and the Riga Dome in Riga, Latvia. In 2010, 2015 and 2016, Mr. Barkauskas participated in international festivals in Lithuania, performing at the ArchCathedral Basilica of Vilnius and the St. Michael the Archangel Church in Kaunas, both as soloist and in ensemble with leading artists of the country.

This recital is among seven concerts, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the re-establishment of the Independence of Lithuania. The recital engagements include St. Patrick’s Cathedral in New York, NY, the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, DC, the Incarnation Cathedral in Garden City, NY, Saint Paul Cathedral in Pittsburgh, PA, the Washington National Cathedral in Washington, DC and St. Joseph’s Oratory in Montreal, Canada.
