Honoring Matthew Shepard: A Celebration of Life

Tuesday, December 1, 2020 | 8:00am

You’re invited to join Washington National Cathedral and the Matthew Shepard Foundation at an online prayer service to celebrate the life of Matthew Shepard on what would have been his 44th birthday.

Matthew Shepard was interred at Washington National Cathedral in 2018, 20 years after his murder horrified the nation and electrified the gay rights movement. Each year on his birthday, the Cathedral and the Matthew Shepard Foundation host a service to celebrate his life and legacy, underwritten with the generous support of the Bloomberg Philanthropies. A plaque in the Chapel of St. Joseph of Arimathea pays tribute to his life:

Matt, rest gently in this place.
You are home safe now.
Peace be with you and all who visit here.
