Diderot String Quartet: Haydn In Plain Sight

Friday, September 1, 2017 | 7:30pm

As the great German poet Goethe implored, "Why seek far afield when the good is so close by?" The string quartet genre offers an embarrassment of riches, but never is there more obvious a composer to turn to than Goethe's contemporary Franz Joseph Haydn. Diderot String Quartet presents two of these works, the ground-breaking quartet in D Major, Opus 20/No. 4, and one of Haydn's final gems in this genre, the quartet in E-flat Major, Opus 76/No. 6. As you'll hear, it's almost too good to be true to get to hear these two quartets, just Haydn in plain sight!
