Program: Hearing Our Voice: A Poetry-Prayer Writing Workshop for National Poetry Month
Brilliant colors, flowers blooming and April is here—the perfect time for National Poetry Month in the Capitol! Let us count our blessings. Come join poet Sherri Waas Shunfenthal for a poetry prayer workshop. Poetry helps us hear our own voice—to make connections to spirit, to each other and the world. Poetry is a partnership between the words, the speaker and the reader or listener. We will look at our traditions, our faith, our hopes and prayers as we do a meditation. We look at the role of metaphor, create a group poem and possibly create our own individual prayer poem.
Sherri Waas Shunfenthal is the author of: Journey into Healing, Sacred Voices: Women of Genesis Speak, and Seasons of Prayer (pocolpress.com). She has written and led services at Congregation Adat Reyim. As the leader of Poetry Partners she has created poetry and, writing workshops for all ages. She has led meditation workshops, book readings and numerous poetry workshops in the Virginia and DC metro area and is a participant in many interfaith programs.
