Advent Art Making as Spiritual Practice: Luminarias

Sunday, November 28, 2021 | 4:00pm

Advent is a season of waiting; we move through darkness toward the light of Christmas. Explore artmaking as a spiritual practice and create your own cut-paper luminaria. No previous experience with art or contemplation is necessary, only curiosity and a willingness to engage the creative process.

Kiki McGrath is a visual artist working between Chicago and Washington, DC. Exhibitions include Free Punch & Pie in the American University Museum in Washington, DC, Roman Abstractions at the Sembler Gallery in the US Embassy in Rome, Italy, and Women’s Work in the Indianapolis Art Center, Indianapolis, IN. She received a grant from the DC Commission on the Arts and Humanities, graduate awards from the American University, and has participated in residencies in the US and Italy. Her MA in Museum Studies is from the George Washington University and she is currently an MFA student at American University in Washington, DC. She volunteered in the Peace Corps in Panama and taught art classes to children and adults before working as a curator in the Luce Center for Arts & Religion at Wesley Theological Seminary.
