Concert: Mozart and Jadin

DIDEROT STRING QUARTET
Be surprised by some tasty off-the-menu music from the little-known Hyacinthe Jadin, who was born the same year as the United States. One of Jadin’s contemporaries, Charles Caleb Colton, coined the maxim “imitation is the sincerest [form] of flattery.” If Colton's word is true, then Jadin’s op. 2, no. 1 string quartet makes the cheeks turn red on Mozart’s “Dissonance” quartet: the two pieces begin with a shockingly similar—and similarly shocking—introduction.
