20s&30s Group Event: Where is God in Harry Potter?

Thursday, February 21, 2019 | 7:00pm

One Harry Potter commentator has said that JK Rowling’s Harry Potter series is the “greatest evangelistic opportunity the church has ever missed.” Only sacred texts like the Bible or the Quran have out-sold the Harry Potter series, with over 800 million books sold in 68 languages. The Harry Potter series explores the universal struggle between good and evil and the redemptive power of sacrificial love.

Join the diocese's Canon for Evangelism, the Rev. Dr. Patricia Lyons, as we convert the Cathedral Library into the Great Hall. With movie clips and discussion, we will identify the fingerprints of JK Rowling’s Anglican faith found in every chapter of the seven books. Come and hear exactly how Christian theology forms the soul of the Potter saga. Bring your friends in the Harry Potter fandom, whether they are believers in God or not. All seekers welcome! This is a 20s&30s Group event.

There will be prizes for trivia, chocolate frogs, and other British yummies. Dust off your wands and Halloween costumes from the last 20 years and wear all your Harry Potter swag! If able, please bring a dish or bottle of wine to share.
