About the Romanian National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin”
Since its foundation in 1963 by the legendary musician and conductor Marin Constantin (1925-2011), the Madrigal Choir has given hundreds of concerts all over the world.
The Madrigal Choir remains a world-renowned standard of choral chamber music and showcases a unique concept defined by its specific sound, stereophonic stage-setting and magnificent costumes. Their repertoire focuses on the European Renaissance, Gregorian and Byzantine scores, traditional carols, and the compositions of classical or contemporary Romanians.
Even the name of the ensemble explains its penchant for medieval creation—madrigal being a short vocal, polyphonic, lyrical character, specific to the 16th century.
In 2023, the National Chamber Choir “Madrigal – Marin Constantin” celebrates 60 years of uninterrupted activity and announced the “Madrigal 60” anniversary program, which includes a wide range of projects dedicated to celebrating a grand legacy: six decades of excellence in music, cultural diplomacy and confidence in changing Romania through music and culture.
