Sure, we all know the District of Columbia is home to the Cathedral, but there are hundreds of other churches, each with their own unique history.

Airing now on WETA (D.C.’s local public television station), “A Sacred Piece of Home” dives into the multi-layered fabric of the capital region’s houses of worship. The Cathedral is featured in the second episode, and offers a great overview of how the Cathedral got here and how it was built.

You’ll also find interesting histories on some of our neighbors, including the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, and the rich diversity of churches, temples and mosques along 16th Street, extending up from the White House to the Maryland line.

The series is hosted by Georgetown University professor Ori Z. Soltes, and you can catch the entire four-episode series on WETA’s website for free through the end of June.
