The Easter Bunny is going to have to stop by the Cathedral to pick up more than 400 Easter baskets that were assembled by the Cathedral Scholars for disadvantaged kids in D.C.

The baskets, filled with school supplies, candy and about a gazillion plastic Easter eggs, are part of the Cathedral’s annual outreach to the city it calls home.

The Scholars is one of the Cathedral’s most successful outreach programs. Every year, we work with 15 students at D.C. public high schools who demonstrate academic and social potential. Through mentorships, tutoring, extracurricular programs, service projects and an intensive summer academic prep session, the Scholars get the tools and the extra boost they need to finish high school and enter college.

Here’s the really amazing thing: To date, the Scholars boasts an astounding 100 percent success rate in graduation and acceptance into college.

Thanks to the Scholars, and program director Joseph Peralta, for all the good work!
