Cathedral to Host Women In Military Service For America as part of Military Recognition Sundays
WASHINGTON – On Sunday, March 1, Washington National Cathedral will welcome representatives from the Women In Military Service For America Memorial (Military Women’s Memorial) as part of the Cathedral’s “Military Recognition Sunday.”
On the first Sunday of most months, the Cathedral’s 11:15am Sunday service includes military chaplains and the opportunity for individual blessings and prayers for those in the military or caring for them. Each monthly event is also supported by a veteran- or military-serving organization. Denise Rucker Krepp, a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard, will represent the Military Women’s Memorial at the March 1st service.
“Military recognition Sunday is one way we at the Cathedral honor the value of military service to our country,” said the Very Rev. Randolph Marshall Hollerith, dean of the Cathedral. “We are pleased to welcome Women In Military Service For America Memorial representatives in recognition of Women’s History month.”

From its institutional beginnings, the Cathedral has held high regard for military service. This esteem is reflected in War Memorial Chapel, countless stained-glass windows, carvings, needlepointed kneelers, and other articles made by master craftsmen and women. In addition to the building itself, worship services and commemorations throughout its history have honored military service through two world wars and conflicts in Korea, Vietnam, and other places around the world.
Throughout the year, the Cathedral honors military service with programs like the annual Veterans DayTribute, and the Blessing of the Bikes, held in conjunction with Rolling to Remember on the Friday of Memorial Day weekend. More information is available at cathedral.org/veterans.
