Cathedral to Host the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge
Washington National Cathedral will hold an extraordinary concert on Sunday, April 6, 2025, at 6 p.m. ET, featuring the world-renowned Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, under the Cathedral’s soaring vaulted ceilings.

This is a rare opportunity to experience one of the world’s oldest and most beloved choral ensembles in the heart of Washington, DC.
The concert will showcase a stunning program that merges the rich traditions of English and European choral music. The first half opens with Renaissance polyphony, weaving together music from the early years of the Chapel of King’s College’s construction, culminating in the works of Orlando Gibbons, a former chorister at King’s. This performance marks the 400th anniversary of Gibbons’ death, a commemoration that continues throughout 2025.
The program’s second half offers a reflective moment for the season of Lent, featuring Herbert Howells’ Requiem, a profoundly moving setting of Psalms and prayers from the Book of Common Prayer, akin to Brahms’ “human” Requiem. Howells, a composer with deep ties to King’s, is also represented with his Te Deum, composed for the Chapel in 1944. To conclude the evening, the choir honors Dame Judith Weir, a former student of King’s and recently retired Master of the King’s Music. Weir’s work is celebrated as part of her remarkable legacy at King’s College.

About Washington National Cathedral
Grounded in the reconciling love of Jesus Christ, Washington National Cathedral is a house of prayer for all people, conceived by our founders to serve as a great church for national purposes.
About The Choir of King’s College, Cambridge
Founded in the 15th century, the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge is one of the world’s best-known choral groups. Every Christmas Eve, millions worldwide tune in to A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols, a service that has been broadcast almost every year by the BBC since 1928. The Choir owes its existence to King Henry VI, who envisaged the daily singing of services in the magnificent college chapel. Singing daily services remains an important part of the lives of the choristers, who are educated at King’s College School, and the choral scholars and organ scholars, who study a variety of subjects at the University of Cambridge. The Choir has produced numerous professional singers including James Gilchrist, Christopher Purves and Gerald Finley. The Choir’s worldwide fame and reputation, enhanced by its many recordings, has led to invitations to perform around the globe, and to an extensive international touring schedule.
