Cathedral to Host Interfaith Service of Prayer for the Nation
Washington National Cathedral will host an interfaith Service of Prayer for the Nation on Tuesday, January 21, the day after the presidential inauguration.
In this special service, the Cathedral will gather with interfaith and ecumenical partners to offer prayers of thanksgiving for our democracy and to seek God’s guidance in the years ahead. President-elect Donald Trump and Vice President-elect J.D. Vance are expected to be in attendance.
The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde, the Episcopal bishop of Washington, will preach, and the Cathedral Choir, the Cathedral Contemporary Ensemble, and special guest musicians will provide music as we gather to seek healing, unity and wisdom in the months to come.
All media wishing to cover the service must request press credentials from the Cathedral. The window for requesting credentials is now closed. Determinations for these requests will be made on Friday, January 17. For broadcast media, the network pool will provide coverage; all pool subscribers should contact ABC for broadcast coverage needs. The Cathedral will also have an HD livestream of the service at this link, which all media are free to use with credit to Washington National Cathedral.
“We are in a unique moment in our country’s history,” said the Very Rev. Randolph Marshall Hollerith, Dean of Washington National Cathedral. “This will be a service for all Americans, for the well-being of our nation, for thanksgiving of our democracy and the importance of the core values that must undergird our life together.”
Due to security concerns and the large number of expected guests and dignitaries, this service is not open to the public.
