Cathedral to Host Documentary Featuring Three Tradesmen
WASHINGTON, D.C – Washington National Cathedral will screen “Good Work: Masters of the Building Arts,” a new documentary from Academy Award-winning directors Marjorie Hunt and Paul Wagner showcasing ten artisans in the building trade, including four with hands-on experience at the Cathedral on Thursday, March 23, 2017 at 7:00 p.m. ET. The screening will be followed by a short discussion with the filmmakers and three Cathedral artisans whose work is featured in the film.
The documentary celebrates American craftsmanship, occupational traditions and the diversity of beautiful and functional works of art, from stained glass to masonry to ironwork and hard-carved lettering.
This is the second time Marjorie Hunt and Paul Wagner have filmed a documentary featuring Cathedral artisans. Their first, “The Stone Carvers: Master Craftsmen of Washington National Cathedral” about master stone carvers Roger Morigi and Vincent Palumbo, won the 1984 Academy Award for Best Documentary Short.
The Cathedral’s screening of “Good Work” is free and open to the public. RSVPs are requested. The screening is made possible with the support of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
