Cathedral Announces Election Day Services and Prayers to Foster Unity and Peace
WASHINGTON – As Americans head to the polls in a highly divisive election season, Washington National Cathedral announces its Election Prayer Vigil––calling for peace, unity, and the safeguarding of democratic values.
These opportunities for prayer are part of the Cathedral’s A Better Way initiative, calling on Americans to embrace their differences and strive for mutual understanding and respect.
On Election Day (November 5), the Cathedral Nave will be open for private prayer and meditation from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Clergy will offer prayers and four services during the Election Day Prayer Vigil between 8 a.m. and 9 p.m., including:
- 8 a.m. EST: Service of Morning Prayer
- Noon EST: Interfaith Noonday Service of Prayer, led by Bishop of Washington Mariann Edgar Budde
- 5 p.m. EST: Service of Evening Prayer
- 8:45 p.m. EST: Compline
On November 6, 2024, the day after the election, the Cathedral will open for private prayer and meditation from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. A Service of Unity and Hope after an Election, led by Cathedral Dean Randy Hollerith will be offered at noon EST.
