Virginia "Ginnie" Mars has spent much of her life as a civic volunteer promoting wildlife preservation, education and music.

She is an alumna of Vassar College and is still involved with the institution. She chaired her 50th reunion class fund, served as a trustee for 12 years, and served on the President’s Advisory Council. She also led the college’s capital campaign between 1989 and 1997.

Professionally, she was a teacher after college, and was a Director of Mars Foundation until 1990. At the National Symphony Orchestra, she earned the distinction of being the only woman to serve as president. She also is a past director of Cardinal Financial Corp.

She currently serves as the co-chair of the A Cathedral for the Future $150 million comprehensive campaign, and has served as a member of the Cathedral Chapter several times. Her other non-profit interests include the National Symphony, the Smithsonian Institution, and the Potomac and Langley Schools.

Ginnie has four adult daughters.
