Margaret Rawls
Director, Programs & Institutional Initiatives
Margaret Rawls joined the Cathedral in the Office of the Vicar in 2018, and in 2023 was promoted to Director, Programs & Institutional Initiatives, where she plays a key role in the Cathedral’s public voice and welcome through large convenings and visitor programs.

As a key leader of the Cathedral’s strategic commitment to serve as a Convener, Margaret welcomes audiences to public programs, forums and other gatherings. She helps shepherd the growth of the Cathedral College of Faith & Culture, the public gateway for Cathedral programming at the intersection of sacred and civic life.
She also oversees the Cathedral’s visitor experience through sightseeing and interpretation, special events and exhibits, and guides the creation of the Cathedral’s annual planning process to fully integrate audience interaction with engaging offerings.
A native of Richmond, Va., she holds undergraduate and master’s degrees from the University of Virginia, where she previously served as program administrator of UVA’s Religion, Politics and Conflict Initiative. She was the winner of the 2022 Dean’s Award for demonstrating excellence among Cathedral staff.
When not at the Cathedral, you will often find Margaret on the tennis court, knitting an unneeded garment or jumping into her next great read.
