Brian Vahaly
Brian Vahaly currently serves as the Co-CEO and Chairman of the United States Tennis Association (USTA) and US Open tennis championships. He is the youngest person and first openly gay man to hold the chairmanship role, bringing to the work a unique perspective built on his business, academic, and professional tennis experience.
Outside his service to USTA, Vahaly has established himself as a leader in helping early-stage companies execute operational turnarounds, drive growth, and increase profitability. Vahaly was the CEO of YouFit Gyms, CFO of [solidcore], and COO of NextGen Venture Partners which all culminated in successful exits. Vahaly has spent much of his last ten years in private equity and venture capital, and currently serves as a Senior Advisor with Brown Advisory.
During his tennis career, Vahaly enrolled at the University of Virginia, where he became a three-time all-American, reaching the NCAA singles final in 2001 and being named a two-time ACC tennis player of the year. After graduating from UVA as an Academic All-American with a double major in finance and business management, Vahaly began a seven-year professional tennis career in which he reached a ranking of No. 64 in the world. He was the only male college graduate in the Top 100 rankings during that time, and he was the only current or former ATP pro player to come out publicly as a member of the LGBTQ+ community.
Vahaly currently serves on the Facility and Fine Arts Committee at Washington National Cathedral and lives with his husband, Bill Jones, and their two sons in the Arlington, VA area.
