Washington National Cathedral will host Episcopal Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde and Special Olympics Chairman Tim Shriver for a special conversation that blends faith and action on Thursday, May 22, 2025, at 7 p.m ET.

Shriver and Bishop Budde will discuss the Dignity Index’s three core beliefs and reflect on how a commitment to dignity can inspire a new kind of civic life grounded in mutual respect, shared purpose and deep moral conviction.

This event is part of the Cathedral’s “A Better Way” initiative, which aims to help Americans listen to one another, learn from each other, and move forward together as a nation.

The Dignity Index, launched in 2021 as a measure of respectfulness in political discourse, gained prominence during Utah’s 2022 elections when it was used to evaluate candidate communications. Through this effort, Tim Shriver discovered a powerful insight: dignity begets dignity, and the more people see it, the more they value it, and the more they expect it from public leaders.

Tickets are available on a pay-what-you-wish basis here. Members of the media are invited to RSVP for access.

Grounded in the reconciling love of Jesus Christ, Washington National Cathedral is a house of prayer for all people, conceived by our founders to serve as a great church for national purposes.

About Bishop Mariann Edgar Budde
The Right Rev. Mariann Edgar Budde is the spiritual leader for 86 parishes within the Episcopal Diocese of Washington, in suburban Maryland and Washington, D.C. Her sermon at the Cathedral’s Service of Prayer for the Nation following the 2025 presidential inauguration launched her as a national figure for compassion and mercy in our politics.
