Washington National Cathedral Choir & Baroque Orchestra will present Handel’s Messiah in a series of stirring performances set against the backdrop of the Cathedral’s majestic architecture.

The choir and orchestra will bring this timeless masterpiece to life, with the triumphant “Hallelujah Chorus” resonating through the awe-inspiring space, captivating all in attendance.

The series will feature four performances, beginning Friday, December 6 and running through Sunday, December 8. A special family concert will take place on Saturday, December 7, at Noon, featuring an abbreviated version of Messiah to introduce young listeners to its most memorable moments.

Writing in The Washington Post recently, Georgetown University professor Charles King said Handel’s 1742 masterpiece speaks to our times because it was was born of — and built for — a world awash in political turmoil, social unrest and fear about the future. It has endured because every generation has found its own travails mirrored in the striking combination of ancient prophecies and irresistible songs and choruses. At its core is a hidden method for thinking our way toward hope.”

Tickets to the concert can be purchased here. Livestream tickets for the Sunday performance (available on a pay-what-you-can basis) are available here.
