Whether through the seduction of social media, the terror of the pandemic, or the haunt of racial violence, our social momentum is drawing us toward a disembodied life. What is the spiritual cost of divorcing the mind from the body? How can Christian contemplation guide us into deeper embodiment and reverence for the body? Drawing on stories of chronic illness, trauma, and race, we will examine how we inhabit our corporal selves, and consider rituals that can aid us as we reclaim the physical good.

Cole Arthur Riley is a writer and poet. She is the author of the NYT bestseller, This Here Flesh: Spirituality, Liberation, and the Stories that Make Us. Her writing has been featured in The Atlantic, Guernica, and The Washington Post. Cole is also the creator and writer of Black Liturgies, a project that integrates spiritual practice with Black emotion, Black literature, and the Black body.
