A Prayer for VE Day

Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) commemorates the formal acceptance of the unconditional surrender of Nazi Germany to the Allied forces on May 8, 1945, ending World War II in Europe.

God of all peoples and nations, we honor the bravery and selfless service of those who brought peace to Europe on this day 75 years ago.

We remember before you all who lost their lives and those who continue to suffer the effects and memories of war.

We give thanks for the reconciliation of former enemies and for the flourishing of goodwill between them.

Grant perseverance to those who continue to work for peace, for the Armed Forces of the United States, and to all who strive to bring an end to injustice and oppression throughout the world.

All this we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
