Drawing on the rich heritage of sacred choral music, the 2020 Directors Course expands the tradition of excellence that is deeply rooted in this sacred space where the nation gathers.
We invite you to join us at Washington National Cathedral, a center for continuing education, pilgrimage and retreat and the spiritual home for our nation. We look forward to providing this unique opportunity for choral conductors and organists to grow in musicianship together with colleagues committed to excellence in worship. With the highest standards, distinguished faculty and renowned facilities, we invite you to cultivate your skills and achieve your potential through a transformative week of education and worship in the beautiful surroundings of the Cathedral.
Featuring two tracks of immersive study and grounded in intensive workshops, lectures and discussions, the Directors Course provides ample opportunities for expansive growth in sacred music leadership.
This track focuses on conducting workshops, solo singing, and the planning and leading of liturgy throughout the week. A daily singing lesson is an integral part of the course and helps directors gain insight and increase effectiveness with singers.
This track focuses on the accompanying of services from the console of the Cathedral’s Great Organ. Organists receive hands-on coaching in small group sessions to prepare them for the services they accompany throughout the course.
Application deadline: March 15, 2020
Those who wish to apply must complete an electronic application form and submit supplemental materials.
The cost of the course is $1,500, which includes tuition and meals. A non-refundable $375 deposit is required upon acceptance.
