Washington National Cathedral seeks a full time Program Coordinator to execute and support the successful creation and implementation of projects and programs in the Cathedral College of Faith & Culture, the programmatic arm of the Cathedral. The College of Faith & Culture convenes people from all walks of life to find connection and common ground. Whether it’s an intimate retreat, a large public program or online learning, we’re committed to building bridges through education, conversation and compassion. In 2023, the Virginia Mae Center, a residential retreat building located on the Cathedral Close, will open, expanding the Cathedral’s programming capacity.

With a detail-oriented and forward-thinking outlook, this position will organize events, handle details and logistics for internal and external projects, and bring new ideas and thinking about programs. The position will work closely with the Cathedral programs and events staff. This position oversees and executes activities that advance institutional priorities including racial justice, religious diversity and spirituality, and the Cathedral’s mission to be a “House of Prayer for All People.”

Utilizing a passion for mission-driven work, the ideal candidate will provide important coordination, oversight, and support for successful programs and events and timely execution of tasks. The ideal candidate would possess  strong organizational skills, planning and operations experience, and a thoughtful and collaborative mindset. Collaborating with various departments at the Cathedral, this position will work to align various stakeholders in managing projects and programs.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Programmatic Support, Planning, and Organization:

  • Oversee and coordinate the planning and execution of programs and their activities.
  • Provide both on-site and online day-of support and staffing for programs and activities.
  • Facilitate and manage outreach to speakers, partners, and community members.
  • Provide administrative oversight and support for projects and programs.
  • Track and manage details related to projects and programs.
  • Coordinate logistics including travel, lodging, and other as relates.

Writing and Communication:

  • Draft and edit related copy for programs and activities.
  • Update and manage online program resources, communications, and copy.
  • Work across departments to ensure information is shared effectively and in a timely manner.

Innovation/ Strategy Development:

  • In collaboration with Manager, Institutional Initiatives and Special Projects, work to strategize new and innovative programming.
  • Audit and assess current programs and provide feedback and programmatic support for improvement.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications (education, certification, years experience):

  1. Undergraduate degree or commensurate education and experience in History, Anthropology, Museum Studies, Liberal Arts or other related fields.
  2. One year of administrative or programmatic experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  3. Washington National Cathedral requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any boosters recommended and available to the general public, in the absence of eligibility for medical or religious exemptions.

 Experience Preferred:

  •  Proficiency in Office 365/Microsoft suite is preferred.
  • Experience working with communications technology, databases, and event management systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with Episcopal Church or other faith traditions.

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and weekends. This position is eligible for a hybrid model of work, as scheduling allows, requiring some commitment of in-person work.
  • The position requires prolonged sitting, standing, walking, reaching, twisting, turning, kneeling, bending, and stooping in the performance of daily activities.
  • The need to lift, drag, push, and pull files, reports and other materials weighing up to 25 pounds is also required.
