Job Summary:

Washington National Cathedral is searching for a creative and innovative Digital Storyteller to help shape the Cathedral’s social media presence. The Cathedral is at an exciting turning point of transformation in adopting the first digital strategic plan. This position will be a key member of the dynamic Communications team in growing and evolving a compelling editorial voice in the online environment. Using evidence-based data to inform decision making, this person will tell stories through strategic content creation and curation. The Digital Storyteller will understand and craft the Cathedral “voice” from conceptualization to implementation.

Among the duties assigned to the position are the following:

Collaboration and Creation:

  • Implement current digital communications strategy.
  • Write and edit digital content for social, email, and web.
  • Curate multimedia content in collaboration with in-house video team.
  • Collect and assemble digital content from multiple departments into a singular, reverent but playful voice.

Implementation and Management:

  • Manage all social content output.
  • Maintain a social media calendar and posting schedule for all social media accounts, including Instagram, Facebook, YouTube, and Twitter.
  • Analyze effectiveness of content using analytics.
  • Monitor and report on communications-related analytics.

Digital Innovation:

  • Partner with the Director of Digital Engagement to evolve an innovative and strategic approach to social.
  • Collaborate with the communications team around new strategies, including but not limited to video storytelling, app development, podcasts, and website development.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Social Media, Marketing, Communications, Journalism, English, or related discipline.
  • Basic knowledge of marketing and communications techniques.
  • Strong technical understanding of, and experience with, social media management platforms, content management systems, analytics tools and other new media technologies.
  • Demonstrated strong written and oral communications skills, with an ability to tailor content for different target audiences.
  • Demonstrated project management skills.
  • Experience in social media and marketing campaigns, personally and/or professionally.
  • Washington National Cathedral requires all employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, including any boosters recommended and available to the general public, in the absence of eligibility for medical or religious exemptions.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Working knowledge of social media content and creation.
  • Proficiency in Digital Storytelling and Social Media platforms.
  • Working knowledge of Sprout Social or other social media management platforms.
  • Expert knowledge of social media platforms as content creator and user.
  • Excellent copy writing and editing skills; ability to write and format in the tone and voice of Washington National Cathedral.
  • Ability to prioritize and move between multiple projects simultaneously, maintaining ownership and handing off projects when needed.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people from a variety of backgrounds.

Experience preferred:

  • Experience with podcasting, vlogging, and video.
  • Working knowledge of the Christian/ Episcopal Church is preferred.
  • Experience with WordPress, Adobe Creative suite, Microsoft and Office 365
  • Analytics and data-informed approach to social.
  • Agile Methodology and design thinking.

Working Conditions:

  • This position requires work during regular business hours. At times, some work on weekends and outside of regular business hours may be required.
  • This position is eligible for a hybrid model of work, requiring at least 3 days/week in the office.
