Online Program: A Reflective Writing Workshop Inspired by Art and Poetry
Join the Cathedral Center for Prayer & Pilgrimage for this online program, Leaps of Faith: A Reflective Writing Workshop Inspired by Art and Poetry with Mary Hall Surface.
Discover the contemplative power of close looking at works of art and reflective writing in an online workshop facilitated by playwright and teaching artist Mary Hall Surface. Inspired by 16th century Venetian painter Jacopo Bassano’s The Miraculous Draught of Fishes and more, we will ponder the extraordinary in the ordinary and consider how we are called in our lives and in community. Designed for everyone, not just “writers,” this workshop invites you to look outwardly at paintings and poetry to look inwardly through writing for personal growth and spiritual direction.
Mary Hall Surface presents workshops nationwide as a Kennedy Center teaching artist and as a popular creative and reflective writing instructor for the Smithsonian Associates, the National Gallery of Art and the Washington National Cathedral’s Center for Prayer and Pilgrimage. As the founder of the National Gallery of Arts’ Writing Salon she was featured in The Washington Post Magazine. She was a faculty member of Harvard’s Project Zero Classroom, 2014 – 19 and her plays have been produced at theaters, museums, and festivals throughout the US, Europe, Canada, and Japan, including 17 productions at the Kennedy Center. www.maryhallsurface.com
