It is with a heavy heart that I have to share that our colleague, Tracy Dieter, passed away today at George Washington University Hospital after collapsing at the Cathedral early Tuesday morning.

Tracy gave 22 years to the Cathedral across a variety of roles. We give thanks for the many ways she shared her gifts with others — her friends, her family and most especially, this Cathedral. Most recently, she hosted the Sunday morning YouTube chats for our worship services, but she could also be found running our video system, or in the sound booth, or serving as a volunteer verger and assistant with our Worship team.

She was most proud of her time as the verger for the College of Preachers, and I was able to witness her skills up-close on pilgrimages to the Holy Land that she helped lead and organize. This Cathedral meant so much to her, just as she meant so much to us.

In the coming days, we will be sharing information about ways that we will give thanks for her life and commit her soul to God. For now, I want to extend a special thanks to our staff, security team and first responders who came to Tracy’s aid when she fell ill.

Tracy embodied the spirit of this Cathedral, which was reflected in how she regularly signed off on her Facebook posts: “Love to you all. No exceptions.”

Into your hands, O merciful Savior, we commend your servant, Tracy. Acknowledge, we humbly beseech you, a sheep of your own fold, a lamb of your own flock, a sinner of your own redeeming. Receive her into the arms of your mercy, into the blessed rest of everlasting peace, and into the glorious company of the saints in light. Amen.
