Melvin D. Gerald, Jr., CVP is the Interim Vice President of Guest Event Management Services at Washington National Cathedral, where he provides executive leadership for guest experience, event operations and visitor services.

He supports the execution of worship services, national ceremonies, concerts, special events, and public programs, working across leadership, clergy, security, facilities, and operations to deliver exceptional experiences while advancing the Cathedral’s mission.

Previously, Melvin served as Vice President of Campus Planning at the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, where he led theater management, campus rentals, guest and usher services, volunteer services, transportation operations, and public space coordination. His portfolio included nationally recognized events such as the Kennedy Center Honors, the Mark Twain Prize, REACH Opening Festival, and numerous international and civic programs.

Earlier in his career, Melvin held leadership positions with the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, Arlington County Cultural Affairs, African Continuum Theatre Company, and Signature Theatre.

A Certified Venue Professional (CVP) and graduate of Venue Management School, Melvin studied Arts Management at American University and earned a Bachelor of Arts in Theatre from Morehouse College. Melvin and his wife have been associated with the Cathedral Close through Beauvoir and National Cathedral School as proud parents of two daughters.
