Information on Parking Garage Construction Project

Rendering of proposed Wisconsin Avenue Garage Ramp Rendering of proposed Woodley Road Garage Ramp

Since July 2005, the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation has been involved in an eighteen month construction project designed to improve parking on the Close and reduce the impact of Cathedral traffic and parking on the surrounding neighborhood streets. The project includes construction of an underground bus depot for tour buses (in lieu of the existing bus lane along Wisconsin Avenue) and an underground parking garage for automobiles (under the lawn to the north of the Cathedral and east of NCS’s Hearst Hall). The car garage and bus garage are slated to open mid-April 2007.

New traffic signals and pedestrian crosswalks have been installed at the entrance to the car garage (Wisconsin Avenue and North Road) When the sod, plantings and trees are installed, the north lawn will be returned to its former beautiful and welcoming space (see picture above right).
