as 26th Presiding Bishop of the Episcopal Church

The Cathedral’s 11 am All Saints’ Sunday liturgy on November 5 included the formal seating of the Most Reverend Katharine Jefferts Schori in the seat symbolic of her office. Presiding Bishop Jefferts Schori presided and preached. The service was webcast live for those unable to attend the service. (Click here for coverage of November 4 investiture service)

Photo 1: The joyful and colorful service All Saints’ service included an array of musical offerings, prayers and dance. The Blindman brothers from the Presiding Bishop Jefferts Shori’s home diocese of Nevada gathered the assembly for worship with drums and chant. The Omega Dance Company of New York, in residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine, called the congregation to prayer through sacred movement. Musical offerings by the Gospel Choir from the African Episcopal Church of St. Thomas in Philadelphia, Sandra Montes and SOL from Iglesia Episcopal San Mateo in Houston and the Combined Choirs of Washington National Cathedral also enlivened the service.
